Every day in South Korea dogs are being killed to provide meat for human consumption. The methods range from hanging, electrocution, burning and drowning. Whilst the practice of eating dogs may have originated in South Korea at a time of famine, today there is no need for this practice to go on in what is an affluent society.

The Petition of residents of the Parliamentary constituency of The Wrekin and others, declares the Petitioners’ serious concerns about the welfare of dogs reared and slaughtered for human consumption in the Republic of Korea; concurrently strongly applauds and supports the work of the Korean Animal Protection Society (KAPS) and the Korea Animal Rights Advocates (KARA) and all others working peacefully to end this practice.

The Petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons do urge the Government of the Republic of Korea to put an end to these cruel and unnecessary practices.
